Who We Are
Women's Center of Wake County aka The Women's Center is the only day shelter exclusively for single women experiencing homelessness in Wake County. 100% of our guests are experiencing homelessness, 66% have no income. All our clients are women (or female identifying), with more than 50% identifying as a woman of color. More than 85% of our guests have severe or persistent mental illness (SPMI) and 91% have histories of sexual assault. Every person we serve comes from at least one historically marginalized group.
Our Donation Center is the central location for accepting clothing, hygiene and home-goods from the community. Assistance is needed sorting, organizing, and storing donations. Further assistance is needed in our boutique labeling sizes and folding clothing for display. Volunteers may also fill bins and restock our Star Store.
Volunteers must be able to lift 25lbs.
What We Do
The Star Store provides clients a wonderful shopping experience where they can find items that they want and need. Our volunteers assist in creating a special shopping experience for every guest.
